Powerful soil nails

Oversized holes of 100mm to 200mm in diameter are drilled and the centralized self drilling soil nail component is placed. The drill hole is then tremie grouted with cement grout. After the drill hole grout is cured, the soil nails may be torque tensioned against the protective shotcrete face to a slight load if desired.
It is well known that rock is relatively strong in compression and weak in tensile, shear and flexural strengths and often requires reinforcing. Further to this, excavated rock and coal surfaces often deteriorate on exposure. Bolting overlapping zones can safely and securely contain rock and coal within the vicinity of the bolts.
The effective anchorage and bonding to the rock by the soil nails is achieved by grouting. Thus the selection of the right grout is of paramount importance.

Soil nail supporting structure

Soil nailing structure is a new retaining structure for soil excavation and slope stabilization since the 1970s. It combines soil mass, soil nail body and concrete front-panel. Through installing soil nail with certain length and density in soil mass, soil nail forms compound soil body based on cohesive force and frictional resistance. Under the circumstance of soil deformation, soil nail accepts passive stress and then reinforce the soil mass by the tension effect. This will not only enhance the stiffness of entire soil body, but also remedy the weakness of soil body: shear-resistance and low-extension strength. Then, the supporting structure with active restriction mechanism is formed, which will enhance the entire stability and improve soil body’s plastic deformation and failure property.
Soil nail has the functions of convenient, reliable and economical. At the same time, during soil nail construction, the influence for surrounding environment is little. So, soil nail supporting is widely used in foundation excavation project.
Facing with so many difficulties and challenges among excavation and support slope, supporting operation of soil nail has played an important role on the safety of construction.
There are several problems need to be considered during the construction:
1. Before installing soil nail, there are loose rocks falling down when cleaning. So workers shouldn’t operate under this area.
2.When working on muck bank or frame, safety should be noticed.
3.Workers should operate with each other. Temporary supporting shouldn’t be canceled before linking steel frame and soil nail.
4.When deformation or crack appearing during the process of drilling and grouting, efficient remedial measures should be adopted according to conditions and workers should leave danger areas immediately.
5.When mortar grouting into soil nail, pressure gauge should be checked closely. If the indication is too high, special measures should be adopted and ignoring blocking. In addition, nozzle of grouting pipe should not point to people.
6.Workers should operate according to the operation procedure strictly, ignoring the occurrence of security accident.

Best soil nail system

Soil nailing is an economical technique for constructing retaining walls from the top down as well as stabilizing slopes. When applying the soil nailing process relatively small, closely spaced steel tendons are drilled and grouted into the soil. The soil nails significantly increase the apparent cohesion of the soil through their ability to carry tensile loads. A construction facing is also usually required, and is typically shotcrete reinforced by welded wire mesh. A shotcrete facing is typically applied, although more astatically pleasing options such as precast panels, cast-in-place concrete or revegetation are available for permanent structures. Typical applications of soil nailing are in the construction of new slopes in cuttings and remedial works for unstable slopes. Soil nailing can be used in any natural ground.
Soil nailing system is possible in a wide range of materials including: clays sandy soils, weathered rock, tallus slope deposits, heterogeneous and stratified soils. Soil nailing can be seen as unpractical under the following conditions: soft, plastic clays, organics/peat, loose, low density and/or saturated soils and fills (rubble, cinder, ash, etc.). Soil Nailing Drainage Systems are also a key consideration in design. Drainage systems are integrated into the nailed wall, minimizing liquid pressure and preventing erosion of the reinforced ground.

Soil nailing is used primarily for excavation support or slope stabilization. This process involves the installation of closely spaced soil nails drilled near horizontal and the application of a facing material such as reinforced shotcrete or structural mesh. The soil nails themselves tend to be small in diameter, typically 4″ to 6″, and consist of a center reinforcing bar surrounded by grout. Soil nail spacing usually ranges from 4′ to 6′ on center vertically and horizontally with the top row of soil nails generally being placed in the upper two feet of the excavation or slope.
From a design standpoint, soil nailing is a passive system attempting to place enough anchorage into the adjacent soil so it acts as a “reinforced block” to resist overturning. The load demand on each nail tends to be fairly low as they are intended to act as a group. In the case of excavation support, the facing is usually designed to take little load but more so tie the system together. In the case of slope stabilization, the facing may be designed to take more load and the nails may be post tensioned.

Drill Hollow Bar Micropiles

Micropiles , sometime also called root piles or mini piles, are a kind of speciality piles. They are

normally used for underpinning, including high speed railway, bridge building and so on.

The diameter of a micropile is 60 to 200 mm. The diameter is small in comparison with normal piles.
Thus Micropiles systems are allowed in almost any ground condition with equipment smaller than those used for traditional piles.

In general, Micropiles includes the reinforcement, hex nuts, steel casing, steel bearing plates and centralizer.

For Solid Bar Micropiles:

The predrilling is required.
The micropile system is limited to shallow rock, and very stiff throughout soil strata.
Casing is needed in soft soils.
Pre / Post Grouting.
Numbers of equipments.

In contrast, the Drill Hollow Bar Micropiles are more efficient and labor saving in strata

reinforcements:

No need of predrilling, high installation rate.
Self Drilling Hollow Bar Micropiles is available in difficult soil conditions.
No casing required, reduced material cost.
Only need drilling and grout injection.

Soil nail wall for civil

Soil nail walls may not be appropriate for applications where very strict deformation control is
required for structures and utilities
located behind the proposed wall, as the system requires some soil deformation to mobilize resistance. Deflections can be reduced by post tensioning but at an increased cost.
Existing utilities may place restrictions on the location, inclination, and length of soil nails.
Soil nail walls are not well-suited where large amounts of groundwater seeps into the excavation because of the requirement to maintain a temporary unsupported excavation face.
Permanent soil nail walls require permanent, underground easements.
Construction of soil nail walls requires specialized and experienced contractors.
Sinorock® soil nailing system Spiles enable drilled installation, reducing localised disruption and
providing a conduit for grouting. Subsequent grouting assists in the consolidation of the surrounding ground.

Sinorock has long been recognized as a pioneer in the civil engineering and construction industries for developing alternative solutions for conventional structural applications. Our soil nails can be easily and quickly driven with conventional construction tools, little soil disturbance and is considered a low impact solution.

If you are a user of self drilling soil nail, our products are sure to interest you. We are setting new industry benchmarks in the production of self drilling soil nails. Sinorock produces self drilling soil nails to the tightest tollerances & the highest quality standards in the industry. This means, as a customer you get more length (meters) and therefore more finished product per tonne of self drilling soil nails that you purchase. This also means our products cost less to machine than our competitors.
